He writes that he has 'received the package containing the Cultivator up to the end of 1850', and that he will pay him after the Ohio State Board of Agriculture meeting on 13 February. He suggests exchanging 'he Western Agriculturalist with the Cultivator that year. 'It has, I presume, been sent to you by the publisher. The first number is not a fair specimen of what the work is intended to be, either in variety of matter, or in the style of mechanical execution; but hope the work will improve on acquaintance'.

10 mimeographed pages, 4to (A4), small rust marks where staple used to be, (pages now detached), mainly good condition, discussing a newly founded organisation, with some church involvement, to stimulate Black participation in American society. Headings include: I. The Dark Backdrop; II. The Options; III. Project CN - Unique Approach (developing over thelast seventeen months!, including list of crisis points - Martin Luther's King's assassination, Tuskagee, support of workers groups, "Eastman Kodak encounter with FIGHT", etc); IV.

12mo, 3 pp. Bifolium with mourning border. Fair, on aged paper, with one dog-eared corner. Is concerned that, considering the labour and cost of Holden's 'very handsome volume on the Bones' (presumably his 'Human Osteology', 1855), he should have 'deemed it necessary' to present him with a copy. He cherishes Holden's friendship, and hopes he will be 'richly rewarded for all you have bestowed on the work'.

12mo: 12 pp. Stitched and unbound. Fair, on lightly-aged paper with slight wear to extremities. Numbered 1355 at foot of first page. On first page 9 x 7 cm engraving of the monk Luther reading in a library. Beneath the title the author is described as 'James Macaulay, Esq., M.A., M.D., Author of "Luther Anecdotes," [published c.1883] etc. etc.' Curiously scarce considering the publishers: no copy in the British Library or on COPAC.
