The two items are on the same cheap paper stock, and folded in a way indicating that they were issued together. In fair condition, on browned high-acidity paper, with wear at base of Item One, and one leaf detached from Item Two. The two items are interesting artefacts, and a valuable source of information on Cold War Berlin. ONE: Duplicated typescript. 2pp., folio.

12mo, 39 pp. Stitched into original coloured wraps decorated with pastel-coloured rainbow stripes. Text clear and complete. Good, on aged paper. The final two pages of the volume contain crude sketches in coloured pencil (figure seated on steps of country cottage, a clump of trees, ships at sea). The year is not stated, but certainly 1844 from the references in the volume. Found with other autograph material of the Rev. W. M. Mousley, who would have been sixteen at the time of writing. The trip is made along with 'Papa', 'Mama [Mamma]' (often 'poorly'), 'Henry' and 'James'.

In fair condition, on lightly-aged paper, with small piece cut away from one corner, and traces of mount adhering to the blank reverse, which also carries a few marks in ink, with a couple of minor marks in the margin at the foot of the recto. At the head of the page is the engraving, roughly 12.5 x 12 cm, attractively done, and showing Gough in cutaway jacket and waistcoat, standing behind a table, with a seated audience behind him, holding aloft a glass of water.

Both copies 16pp., 12mo, and both stapled in white wraps. Copy 1: Published by the Chinese People's Committee for World Peace and Against American Aggression. Title printed in red. Name of author given at foot of last page: '---- By LIN TA-KUANG.' In fair condition, aged, and on browned high-acidity newsprint, in creased wraps. Copy 2: 'Daily News Release' copy. Title given in black. Apparently identical in its typesetting to Copy 1, but without the author's name. In fair condition, on aged and worn paper, with short pencil notes on cover and elsewhere.

Folio, 205 pp + 24 half-pages. In vellum account book, marbled endpapers, with label of Partridge & Cozens, London. Internally sound, clear and complete. Good, on lightly-aged paper. Binding worn and aged, with tear and head of spine. Titled in manuscript on spine: 'Day Book. May 1st. 1858. W. & P.'A nineteenth-century British surgeon's daybook is an unusual and rare survival.

Title leaf printed, the rest mimeographed. Pp. v-vii consist of an appendix at the rear of the volume. Occult pseudo-science (the Society's logo is a pentacle), presaging the hippie 'retreat from reason' in the face of Cold War realities. Begins 'For ten years the Society of Metaphysicians has worked in the interests of human unity at all levels.

The three items uniform 12mo: Part II: 33 pp; Part III: 33 pp; Part IV: 41 pp, with twelve more pages carrying twenty-eight photographs. All three items in original red and black printed wraps. Texts and images of all three items clear and complete. On worn and browned brittle high-acidity paper, with slight loss to some corners of Part IV. Parts III and IV with a little ink annotation in margins. Five parts were published. Scarce: Apart from full sets at the British Library and LSE, COPAC only lists parts 2, 4 and 5 at Glasgow.

Politician (1776-1858; DNB), later Speaker of the Commons, later 1st Baron Dunfermline. The Committee investigated the riot which took place behind Cold Bath Fields Prison in London on 15 May 1833, during which three policemen were stabbed, one of them fatally. 1 page, 8vo. Not in the best of condition: grubby, worn and creased with several closed tears. Rear repaired with archival tape.
