With the title lengthwise on reverse of second leaf, which also carries a table of 'The Fleets of the Cunard Company and of its Allied Lines' (both of vessels 'in commission' and 'building'). In small type. Text clear and complete. Fair, on aged paper. Detailed prospectus quoting letter from 'the Chairman of the Cunard Company, Sir Alfred Booth, Bart'. Accompanying printed application form (8vo, 1 p). Both prospectus and application with the stamp of the Edinburgh stockbroker A. W. Banks.

Oval head-and-shoulders portrait of a bare-headed Franklin, roughly 8 x 6 cm. Well coloured. Good clear impression, on aged paper with some spotting. On paper 16.5 x 10.5 cm, laid down on leaf from autograph album.

Corrected Galleys, five pages. c.67 x 16cm, some marking, mainly good condition, corrected relatively lightly in MS. possibly by two hands, presumably including the author, and in ink and pencil, some corrections qualitative. Corrections include omissions of words (the word "very" is excised on at least three occasions), additions of letters, change to lower case, added punctuation, etc.

Folio, 4 pp. Both on the same bifolium. All texts clear. On aged and worn paper, with chipping and fraying to extremities. Presumably part of a series of ongoing receipts, as the the first begins in the middle of the preamble '<...> commandement de Monsieur le Marquis de Roye Lieutenant general, | De la somme de deux cent cinquante neuf livres onze sols huit deniers [...]'. The receipts are neatly written out, with two long authorisations in the margins, each bearing the same illegible signature.

15pp., 8vo, disbound, foxing, edges frayed, small stain on last page, front grubby, text complete and clear. WorldCat only mentions the Bibliothèque Nationale copy. This is the "famous" 'Constitution de l'an X' by which Napoleon obtained virtually dictatorial powers.

Folio, 30 pp. In brown leather half-binding, with marbled boards. One simple pen illustration, p. 18, showing arrangement of 'Muraille' and 'Pont'. Good, on lightly-aged paper, in worn binding. Neatly set out, in a secretarial hand, with a synopsis beside each paragraph in red ink in the widened left-hand margins. As a loosely-inserted printed slip explains in English, the manuscript sets out 'instructions by a French Official Commission for the preparation and arming of a fleet of steam ships to be equipped to carry marines to form an expeditionary force to the coast of Africa.

Four pages, cr. 8vo, handwriting faded but readable, folded, foxing/staining, some damage, some crudely repaired, marginally affecting text (two words lost). Baillie Cochrane discusses a visit to Greece and the political situation in Greece from the point of view of a Philhellene. Letter addressed to The Honble. Mr. Leicester Stanhope, Ashburnham House, Kensington, Chelsea, London. Added at top of letter: France 24 Jany. 1847 | My dear Dewing, | Pray read this letter from Mr. B. C. This copy if from the archives of Richard Bentley & Son, publishers, and this copy was personalized by rebinding to become Richard Bentley the Younger's own copy. A typed note has been tipped on to the front endpaper, saying, Letters from young Richard Bentley to his father George Bentley on the transition of the G.W. Railway from Broad Gauge to standard gauge in 1892. George Bentley to encourage his son's early literary effort printed 40 copies of this booklet.

Ex lib Royal Aeronautical Society (bookplate inside cover) with library shelf marks on half-title and elsewhere. Inscribed by the Author as follows, With the best thanks and compliments | of the author | Gustav von Falkenberg || (see p.5, 6, and 92). These page references indicate that the deicatee is T. O'Brian Hubbartd who features on these pages.

37pp., 8vo, disbound (sewn), trimmed (with loss to manuscript annotations), damage and staining final free ep, foxing, otherwise fair. Second half entitles Miscellaneous Rules, Regulations, & Bye-Laws for the Police of the City of Edinburgh, and adjoining districts. The manusscript annotations in ink and pencil adds further instruction or information, for example, p.9 about a book shall be kept at the Police Office ..., adds examine state of this AND p.30 on the numbering of houses and premises, adds Committee [sho]uld be charged [wi]th this duty.

Both items fair, on aged and creased paper, with texts clear and complete. Resolutions: 4to, 2 pp. Headed 'British Archaeological Association.' A 'Requisition' having been signed by 'one hundred and sixty-two Members', the Association's treasurer Pettigrew is recorded as following a reading of this with 'a detailed account of the rise and progress of the Association, and of the nature of the dissensions which for months have diverted the attention of the Committee from the objects for which the Association was formed'. The resolutions are stated, and the proposers named as: Rev. R. H.

The three items are in fair condition, on aged and worn paper, with texts clear and complete. Circular by Crofton Croker and Roach Smith: 12mo, 1 p. On bifolium. Headed 'British Archaeological Association'. Enclosing the 'Resolutions', and drawing attention to the fourth of them, with a statement concerning subscriptions. 'Resolutions': 4to, 2 pp.

The telegram, which is tipped-in onto a leaf from an autograph album, is landscape 8vo, 1 p, with the strips from the ticker-tape laid down on it. Fair, on aged and worn paper, with various official pencillings. Reads 'LOCKER LAMPSON 72 STEPHENS CHAMBERS SW 1 = | CONGRATULATIONS = WINSTON AND CLEMMIE +++'. The cause for celebration, the birth of Locker-Lampson's son, is revealed in other documents in the papers.

Pamphlet, pp.39, printed paper wraps, good condition. Note: "prominent Liverpool businessman James Spence, one of the Confederacy's most active sympathisers".

1. Physical Description: 8vo, 20 pp. Ten loose leaves of watermarked laid paper. Aged, and with chipping to extremities causing occasional minor loss to text. In a neat, close Chancery hand. The leaves would appear to be sequential, with no evidence that any are lacking from the series. Docketing in a modern hand in pencil at head of recto of first leaf, which also has laid down on it a fragment of a small type-written slip: 'B/26 | <...> AL - SERIES B. | <...> 1681 - DECEMBER 1681'. Pp.1-10 (on Leaves One to Five) concern gold; pp.11-20 (on Leaves Six to Ten) concern silver.A.

65pp., folio, marbled wrap front only, ragged. It considers the issue of money bills and the two Houses between 1661 and 1703. Pencilled note, front free endpaper verso, "Unique M.S. from Earl of Harrowby's Collection".  The writer discusses various bills and their progress though amendment and proviso, precedent, dissent, and committee, commencing with the context: "There do not appear in their Lordships Journals any thing Remarkable touching that matter till after the Restoration, when the Lords from that Time to the year 1695 frequently amended Money Bills of all kinds , , , ".

Folio, 3 pp. Bifolium. On paper watermarked 'C ANSELL | 1807'. Seventy-two lines. Text clear and complete. On aged and worn paper, with one short closed tear at spine. Apparently a lawyer's brief or similar legal document. Divided into parts I and II. Both parts subdivided into four parts. It begins: '1. This is 3d. Presentiment against Governor Aris, viz. two by Grand Juries, & one by a Traverse Jury. | 2. Mr. Nares a reputable Magistrate brought forward five accusations against him, in 1799, supported by five affidavits, charging him with corruption, & peculation, [...]'.

In two parts, each with the first page carrying the identically-worded petition. Part One: folio, 10 pp. Part Two: folio, 8 pp. Both texts clear and complete. On heavily aged and worn paper, with part of the blank last leaf of the second part torn away.

Folio, 2 pp. 31 lines. Text clear and complete. On aged paper, chipped at extremities. The elaborate letterhead features a circular engraving by Heuer of two classical female figures in front of a press.

One page, 12mo, creased stained at edge, mainly good. "Will you be so good as to have this por[rai]t engraved - I col. wide, as soon as possible, as it is [?] wanted. Mr Dickinson had some trouble about this por[trai]t at the British Museum, & I would think expects to engrave the block."

4to, 7 pp. In original printed wraps. Fair, with an unobtrusive closed tear to the title leaf. The purpose of the article is to explain the relationship between John Washington, the issuer of the token the article describes, and the first American president. Both sides of the token are illustrated on the front page. The last page carries a family tree of 'The Washingtons of Northamptonshire, Sussex and Virginia'. The only copy of this offcut on COPAC is at the British Library.

Disbound, paginated [477]-484, some staining but otherwise text in good condition, clear and complete report of the Treaty on p.[477], with a Note Historique sur Mac-Gillivray.

Note: Charles Dickens wrote Parliamentary Reports for the True Sun in his early days. Scarce. COPAC lists copies at the V & A and London, WordCat lists five US copies and one European.

Disbound, four pages, folio, aged but good, paginated [1]-4, but also numbered in MS. 95-98. The Trinitarian Order was created in France in the C12th to raise funds to ransom crusader and other Christians held by barbarians. This edict from Emperor Joseph II of Austria orders the suppression of this order and the confiscation of its property since the Order's original purpose was no longer valid.
